James E. Smith
Received his B.A. degree from Hendrix College in 1968 and following service in the United States Marine Corps, as a platoon leader, he obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Jim was a law clerk to the Honorable Arnold M. Adams, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas. His practice areas include bankruptcy, insolvency, business reorganization and general business litigation. He is certified as a civil mediator by the Arkansas Dispute Resolution Commission.
In addition to his membership in the American Bar Association’s Business Section, Business Bankruptcy Committee and its Limited Liability Company, Partnerships and Unincorporated Entities Committee, he has served as a presidential appointee to the American Bar Association’s Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs. He is also active in the Arkansas Bar Association where he has chaired the Lawyers Helping Lawyers Committee and is a former member of the Arkansas Supreme Court Lawyer Assistance Program Committee, is chair of the Arkansas Lawyer Assistance Program Foundation, member of several substantive law committee and a Fellow of the Arkansas Bar Foundation. He is a frequent speaker on business insolvency and reorganization. Jim is active in a variety of civic endeavors including service on the board of the Arkansas Sheriffs Youth Ranch.
